M1900/1901/1903 Sporters
These early sporters include "transitional variations" and calibers included .256 Mannlicher, .303 British and .370 caliber. Many were had barrels by Lancaster and some had the Lancaster "oval" boring. There is some controversy as to which rifles were made as complete rifles by Ross (or for Ross) in Hartford Connecticut vs. Ross actions marked Hartford, Connecticut and shipped to Lancaster in England who used them as a platform to build his own rifles. They are very rarely found. Note the lack of the "donut hole" in the bolt handle.
The first rifle (pictures 1 through 17) is a caliber .256 with Lancaster barrel markings and it without oval boring. The second rifle pictured (pictures 18 through 22) is a .370 Express caliber and is cased and has a bolt mounted receiver sight.
