This is the only Steyr straight pull I have owned.  I have kept it many years and haven't felt inclined to let it go. It was made by Peterlongo of Innsbruck and it is a very finely crafted piece.  It is also light as a feather.  I showed it to my favorite gunsmith several years ago.  He's a fellow who has great appreciation for vintage firearms.  He also created several fine rifles starting with just an action.  He made some stunning stocks from blanks.  So, it was a prideful moment when he held this rifle and did not want to let it back out of his hands.  The old world craftsmanship this rifle exudes penetrated his brain completely.

Very nice! Wish I had the set triggers. What cartridge, stock or....?

The rifle is not marked as to the chambering.  I assume it is stock, but I am only speculating.

.

Either way, lovely rifle.

There was a beautiful example of one of these for sale in Nova Scotia last year for $3000. Sold in a day. It didn't have the rib or a distinguished maker's name, but it was very ornate, with the scope, and in beautiful condition. I can't post pictures, unfortunately, but I did save a couple for my files, being into Steyr also.

Thank you for the kind words on this rifle.  It is gratifying when others can see what I see.

Wonderful rifle. Thank you for posting.

You can certainly see that rifles like this one had a great influence on the early Ross rifles and even later models.

Anyone with The Ross Rifle Story should have a look at pages 131 to 134 and compare to this one.

Thank you as well for the compliment on my rifle.  Yes indeed, one can see much similarity with this rifle and the very early Ross rifles with the external magazine.
