I have a Ross Cadet .22 Sporter.  It was passed down to me from my grandfather, who owned it for many decades.

It's an interesting piece, with a Schnabel forend, and no markings of any kind stamped or engraved on it anywhere.  It is in exceptional condition, still retaining much of its original blueing.  It has a bright bore with sharp, excellent rifling, and a beautifully grained stock which is still in amazing condition.

Unfortunately, due to a financial crisis, I am forced to put it up for sale.  I don't know if it's permitted to do so here, or if perhaps someone can suggest a site suited to this.  I don't think I can wait long enough for an auction house, as they're too infrequent.

I understand it is extremely rare, and I thought the best place to inquire was a Ross rifle enthusiast site, so here I am.

Thanks in advance -

- Mike (mh434)

Mike - this site doesn't see much attention so I doubt you'll garner much interest here.  It is generally helpful to at least specify what country you reside in (e.g. U.S. or Canada) as that can make a difference on whether it is feasible for a transaction to occur.  From what I could see in the photos you posted, the rifle looks like it had been a military style Cadet and the stock has been cut down to a sporter style.  This has a significant impact on value.  Here in the States, people have been having substantial success listing items on gunbroker.  I have noted surprisingly high prices obtained for a variety of rifles.  It is a fast option as you can post something immediately, set an auction end for seven days, and seller's can have their money quickly.  Good luck with your efforts.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.  I should have stated that I live in Canada...

I've got it posted on CanadianGunNutz forum, but haven't had any interest at all - it appears there's not a lot of collectors of Ross stuff here.

Anyway, thanks again, and I'll take a look at auction sites.

Hi Mike, beg borrow or steal a copy of the Ross Rifle Story. On page 161 it shows what a Ross 22 Sporter looks like.

Looks like the stock on yours has been reworked in the wrist area, and the slight Schnabel forend found on the original is not there.

This model should also have a round bolt knob and most likely a serial number.

Good luck with it.

The factory didn't make many sporter versions of the Cadet.  Generally, when found like this one, they are modified military style rifles.
